One of the best even better? A Quick Look at the Sawyer Squeeze Mini

They've gone and done it, Sawyer have made a lighter version of the Squeeze filter. Called the Sawyer Mini, it costs a little less, and you guessed it, it's smaller.

The original Squeeze Filter is really good. It filters all but viruses, is claimed to be good for a million litres, and is simple to use. It can be a little awkward, but it gets the job done. Sawyer have now shrunk the dimensions of the filter, providing some improvements and one or two limitations.

The Squeeze Mini, as quoted by Sawyer, is good for 100,000 litres of water. Quite a drop from the original, considering the size reduction being nowhere near a tenth. But, this is still an excellent lifespan for such a compact filter.

Unlike the original Squeeze filter, the Mini has a limitation in regard to inline adaptors. While it will accept the grey adaptor on the inlet side, it will not take the blue adaptor on the outlet side. So if you are considering using the Mini in either a closed or inline system, then care will be needed with regard to the fixed outlet adaptor tube, as once broken forever gone.

What the Mini does have for it is it's reduced size and therefore reduced weight. It comes in around an ounce less, around 28 grammes. Not a great deal in my book, but for gramme counters it will be significant I imagine. Being lighter and smaller does make the filter easier to handle when filtering, even with a slightly reduced water flow.

I'm going to give the Mini some more use and see how it performs compared to the original, which has been great through the Summer, providing extra water on the really hot days.
